Vacuuming

Why do people have to vacuum at 12:40 am in the morning? Let me tell you, people upstairs do the strangest things.

A Nice Day To Be Home Alone… NOT!

Today is Presidents Day, so no school or work for me. Although it rained last night & it’s supposed to rain again later today, it’s sunny outside & it’s 62 degrees! Unfortunately, there’re too many projects that I have to work on, so I have to stay home pretty much all day. Mel wanted to go shopping, so she & Kaitlyn went to her parents’ house last night & she’s going to go out with them today.

I really don’t mind staying home alone working on projects, since I usually get more things done without the distractions. It’s hard to resist playing with Kaitlyn. Trust me. Besides, I love how our apartment has big tall windows & a high ceiling. They just make the place brighter & look bigger, so it’s very pleasant to be inside. The location & rent are the other obvious things that we love about this place. You can’t beat this anywhere else.

Sadly though, because the building itself is really old (probably over 60 years old?) & the last time that this place got a total facelift was probably 30 years ago, there’re all these gaps/cracks/holes in the house. I try to patch up as many as I can & we keep this place pretty clean, so we have no problem with ants & roaches. In fact, I haven’t seen one since I moved in here almost 3 years ago.

BUT, for some reasons, mice get in somehow. I am seriously a musophobe. I can tolerate any bugs: cockroaches, spiders, caterpillars, whatever. You can put them on my face, if you want. I won’t flinch. But when it comes to rodents, regardless of size, I can’t bare even looking at a photo of it. For real!

Since they are doing major renovation/construction just two houses down the block, we’ve caught almost 10 mice in the past month alone! We live in attached houses, so the construction makes the rodents move to other houses. Although we put all the food that mice would eat in containers, they have been biting on bags & plastic containers in the kitchen, trying to get to the food. Our two electric mouse traps have been doing a great job catching them most of the time.

Still, there’re more coming!

Every time I’m alone in the living room at night, even with all the lights & the TV on, a mouse has to run into the room!

And a stupid mouse ran in on me again last night! What’s there to eat in the living room?! I mopped twice yesterday! Or do I smell like food to them or something??!

WHYYYYYYYYYY???!!

I swear the first thing I’ll do, when I get a full time job after graduating this May, is to find a rodent-proof place to live in!

Anyway, enough bad news. Here’s a video Melanie took of Kaitlyn falling asleep after eating. It’s about two minutes but it’s pretty funny. It was the morning my mom & sister arrived, so you can see my mom napping in the background, too.

We not Amish!

Like my bad “Engrish” grammar? Anyway, for the last couple of days our internet and cable tv have been down. We can’t even watch regular local channels. It’s ridiculous! That’s what sucks about our block. That always happens to us, at least once a month or so. Gets me so annoyed! So we have been sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly bored at home. It felt like there was absolutely nothing to do but sleep, eat, play with Kaitlyn, and do chores. I think the last couple of days Kaitlyn got the most attention from us than she ever has. =D We rely on the computer/web and tv too much. It’s still down right now, but luckily I’m at my parents’ house right now so I can go online and watch tv. (My dad helped me record “Just for Laughs” last night!! Yay!) I was amazed at how many e-mails were in my inbox. I guess normally when our internet is running, I check it like 10 times a day and I get nothing. I just can’t live without the internet and television!! I can’t imagine how the Amish and people back in the day did without it. So Ether read his magazines and I worked on a couple of Sudoku puzzles. It was actually fun!

A little birdy told me so..

Sometimes we put Kaitlyn in the exersaucer for too long and she gets cranky because she wants to get out. So here she is crying, but suddenly gets a little distracted… You must think we’re really awful parents because we just love it when she cries! haha.. nah, it’s only cute sometimes.

It’s my party & I’ll cry if I want to!

First off, I want to say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD“!! My ol’ man is 60 years old today!! Woo hoo!! Have a good one & enjoy your dinner!

Kaitlyn is starting to get a little clingy with me, but mostly when she’s tired. It’s sad when she cries, but it’s also hilarious because she looks really cute when she frowns. Sometimes she adds a little “mum-mum” or “um-ma” to the end of each cry. It’s too adorable. =D

Angry Kaitlyn

Random Thoughts & Pix

So much to do, so little time… Time flies by so quickly.. Just yesterday my little baby was inside me, kicking me and hiccuping every night. Now she’s almost 3 weeks old. I’ve been feeling a whole lot better lately. Of course I’m still sleep-deprived, but I’m surviving. I don’t feel as scared around her, especially when she cries. She cries mostly when she is hungry or tired. It’s hard to get any sleep during the day. And the neighbors upstairs are so inconsiderate. They walk like elephants at all times during the day and night. They’re constantly moving things around on the floor and stomping back and forth. It’s so annoying. One time they were doing that until 5 AM. I think I’ll have to go upstairs and complain if they do that again. I’m going to bring Kaitlyn with me to make them feel more guilty. =D

Over the last week, Kaitlyn has sorta had a stuffy nose. One night she was so uncomfortable she would wake up every few minutes cause she couldn’t breathe and she’d snort. So I took a Q-tip and tried to remove the snot. And a BIG LONG booger came out of one nostril. She was so happy after that. She didn’t even cry when I tried to get the other booger out of the other nostril (I was unsuccessful with that one). Last night was a different story. She was crying the whole time but at least I got both boogers out of both nostrils. Here is a picture (hahahaha):

pretty long, huh? =D

Also, the Yau family came to visit us on Monday. Here is a pic of our babies & their daddies together:

Darion may be Kaitlyn’s potential boyfriend. He’s 1 1/2 months older than her.

This is a pic of my dad, Snow (our dog) and Kaitlyn all sleeping:

They were all so tired.

“TGI Saturday…”

This week has been pretty stressful for me.

First, last Saturday I had to take a glucose tolerance test which checks for gestational diabetes. For this test I had to drink a little bottle of orange soda and then draw blood an hour later. I was trying to prepare myself as best as possible the day before to eat less carbs and no candy/sweets and just drink water all day. I found out on Wednesday that I failed it. I would then have to do a 3-hour glucose test, in which I draw blood, then drink another soda substance and draw blood 3 more times (1 per hour), WITHOUT any food or water. So this test is scheduled for this morning. (It’s now 9:15 AM) I went downstairs at 9 to go do the test and no one is there. So I’m annoyed now. I want to get this test over with as soon as possible so I can eat and get hydrated. I tried to prep myself again all day yesterday and the day before. I had the teeniest bit of carbs and ate veggies and chicken for the second half of the day.

Second, on Thursday, I received a hospital bill for $525 for the Level II Sonogram that I did in the beginning of the month. I was surprised that my insurance didn’t cover it. I started to freak out and ball like crazy. So I called my insurance company yesterday and they said that it’s supposed to be covered and they didn’t even receive a claim from the hospital for that date of service. So therefore I suspect that the hospital is trying to rip me off – get my money and then bill the insurance to get their money too. Stupid hospital. I have to wait until Monday to complain to them.

Anyway my point is, this may not be that stressful for normal people, but for a pregnant woman with hormones going in wack, this is REALLY stressful. You could imagine how sensitive I got. (I started to cry over it.) I would have to change my whole eating habits. No rice or noodles, or at least a tiny bit of it. How can any normal Chinese person NOT eat rice? Noodles and pasta are my favorite foods. Then I don’t get to be like every other pregnant woman who gets to have those midnight cravings for ice cream or cake or cookies. It’s FRUSTRATING! This year has been full of changes for me. Getting married, moving out, getting pregnant, (changing eating habits… what’s next? Don’t get me wrong, the first 3 things are great & I’m happy, but it’s a lot to handle for me within a few months.

Anyway, I must go back down now to see if they’re downstairs yet. Wish me luck and sorry for complaining.

Hel-lo Hunter or Talon?!?

I’m going to be an aunt in a few hours or so!! Jen just checked into the hospital. I can’t wait to see the baby. I hope Jen will be able to get her epidural. She’s been worrying that it’ll be too late and she’d have to deliver normally. Let’s just pray that mother & baby will be okay.

So we don’t know what they’re going to name the baby. Jen likes Hunter (??) and La likes Talon. Both uncommon names. I think Ether & I will have problems agreeing on names too.

On to other things, the stupid mouse that woke me up at 6 AM last week decided to make another appearance last night at 1:30 in the morning. Both times in our room, rummaging through plastic bags. I could barely sleep all night. I kept listening for sounds. Stupid thing keeps on avoiding our traps. We think it came down from the guys living upstairs cuz they kept on banging and hammering on something all day yesterday. So we decided that we’re going to do the same! We’re going to bang and hammer on the walls everyday and send the mice elsewhere! :-D

*UPDATE* I am now officially an aunt! Don’t know his name yet. He was 6+ lbs and 19 1/2 inches. He’s got lots of hair and has La’s nose. Can’t wait to see pix! Yay for Jen & La!

Spirit Airlines?!?!

The flights to and from San Fran were pretty horrible. (Not to mention how ANNOYED I was about the whole terrorist thing – I couldn’t even bring water or lotion on the flight! And strangely no one even checked anyone’s carry-on bags at the security checkpoint, which means I could’ve snuck it in. Boo.) By the way, Spirit Airlines isn’t really a good airline to fly, but I’m sure most of you already sort of know that, since it’s not popular like American or United, but at least it’s not a target! Let’s start with the flight going to San Fran. We got to LaGuardia pretty early and it was like one of the hottest days in NY. THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING! Not even a fan. We were baking in the airport. I have never experienced such a thing. We had to stopover in Detroit first and the airport there is no good. The terminal was really small and only had like a bar/restaurant and a Chili’s/Uno’s Express. The line was LONG! The food was kinda expensive and nothing looked good to me. Then the flights to Detroit and San Fran made me deaf in my left ear from the cabin pressure during landing. Coming back from San Fran, we had a red eye flight (approx. 11 PM) and we had to stop in Detroit again. But for some reason we were stuck at the gate inside the airplane for like 45 minutes after everyone had boarded. (At that point I hadn’t had any water for 3-4 hours so I was pretty ticked.) That flight was about 4 1/2 hours and our seats couldn’t recline because we were sitting in front of the seats next to the emergency exit!! It was so hard to sleep sitting up straight. We even bought the pillows that go around your neck and that was even uncomfortable because it made your head lean forward more. So we pretty much got NO sleep at all last night. My ears were okay on the flight coming back, but not for Ether. He had the same problem I had, except in the right ear. :-P I know, I complain a lot. I’m just glad we made it alive. :-D
