This is what a typical “breaking news” on the death of a famous person is like on American television:

Amazingly, Ether barely coughed for a day or two this past winter/spring. He was able to stay healthy for the most part. I guess, for him, work is just not as stressful as school.
Do you see what Kaitlyn is holding in the photos below? Continue reading ‘Fallen Angel’
Don’t we all just love high humidity on top of 90°F+ days? I guess I should be happy that at least I’m not in Hong Kong right now.
FINALLY… after 2 months, the conclusion to the Ling Family Visit in May.
Our trip to the city (Top of the Rock @ Rockefeller Center, NBA Store, & Central Park)
Taking turns to take pictures with the princess (we charge $100 per picture. haha):
Their final day in NY:
We miss you guys! Can’t wait to see you next month!
Okay so we’re REALLY behind when it comes to posts and pictures.. (our bad!).. so Ether’s family came for a visit last month and Kaitlyn had a blast. She really enjoyed the attention and good company. Unfortunately she caught a fever the day that they arrived and it lasted for 4 whole days. So we really didn’t get to go anywhere until after her fever passed. We were able to go to Downtown Philly and the Amish country for a day. Here are some photos from our trip. Just click on the thumbnail photos to see the bigger versions; click on the right-half of the large photos to see the next one.

Kaitlyn’s sort of going through a phase where she wants to remove her clothes. Sometimes she’s successful, sometimes not. Most of the time it just looks like she’s trying to make a fashion statement.
*This is actually an old entry that I haven’t put up.*
So much has happened since we haven’t really updated. Here are some things that she has learned to do in the last 2-3 months (some things might have been repeated from a previous entry – i can’t remember):
- She no longer drinks from a bottle (nipple) and only uses a sippy cup or drinks from a straw. She learned it pretty quickly. At first she would just bite on the straw, but then when I showed her how to suck up the liquid, she did it! We were very proud.
- She can feed herself w/ a spoon. Of course she still makes a big mess, but she’s still learning.
- She can also brush her teeth w/ her new toothbrush.
- She could pretty much identify and point to all the major parts of her body, except her eyes.
- She smiles when we ask her to (like in the 7th pic).
- She dances whenever she hears music or just about anything w/ a beat.
- She screams at the top of her lungs just to get what she wants (and to drive us both crazy).
- She spins around and around.
- She climbs up on the couch, futon, and stairs.
- She understands sit and stand.
- She folds her arms to pray and says “ah-mama” (AMEN)
- She says “Ah-mo” for Elmo.
- She says “hi” to everyone she sees and calls almost every kid “be-be” (baby), even if they’re older and bigger than her. She also says “be-be” whenever she sees us using a camera or cell phone. She wants to see pictures of herself. (vain baby?)
- She says “Boosh”, meaning bird.
- She says “ba-ba” (meaning dad) everytime she hears the door open. (usually because it’s Ether that’s coming home from work, but it isn’t always him at the door.)
Little kids always do something that’ll make you laugh..
Here she is trying to get into her booster chair (with the tray already on):
Here she was starting to fall asleep on the floor:
Yes, I did put her into her crib after I took these pics. What was I doing while she was falling asleep, you ask? I was chatting online with Auntie Jen!! =D
Here is a picture of her sleeping in her crib (on a different day obviously):
One day (over a month ago) Kaitlyn was playing by herself in the living room while Ether was working on the computer and I was in the kitchen washing dishes. I guess Kaitlyn was either trying to reach for something under the futon or her legs somehow slid underneath it, and got stuck. Ether looked up to see what the squealing was all about and couldn’t help but take a few snapshots of it. (*Those of you worry-worts, she WASN’T hurt and it has never happened again.*)
I know it’s not easy, but I’m glad that Mel can be home to take care of Kaitlyn. One reason is that Kaitlyn benefits a lot from it, at least that’s what it seems to me. I mean, the fact that she learned to walk at 10 months probably has nothing to do with us. But with other things, like holding her own bottle at 4 or 5 months old, that is something that someone has to spend time teaching & challenging her.
Here’s a list of what she can or would do right now, and she learned a lot of it in the past 2 months.
- - say “ma-ma” & “ba-ba”
- - say both “maah-MA” & “paw-paw” (refer to “grandma” on both sides)
- - say “be-Be” (when she sees herself or babies)
- - say “hi” & wave (when she’s been told to or when she sees a friendly face)
- - say “yay” & clap (when she hears people say “yay” or clap, whether in person or on TV)
- - say “bye” & wave (when she sees people putting on coats & jackets)
- - say “nigh-nigh” (means milk)
- - say “ba-bao” (means bread; which should be pronounced “bao-bao”, but she says this basically whenever she sees any kind of food)
- - say “ba-bo” (means she want you to pick her up; which should be pronounced “po-po”)
- - say “mum-mum” (when she wants food in general)
- - say “Dees” (means “George”, but she just can’t say it; whenever she sees “Curious George”, monkeys, or any brown stuffed animals)
- - say “rau-rau-sh” (when she sees dogs or just animals that walk on all fours)
- - say “Ahh-ma, ma, ma, ma…” (means “Amen”)
- - say “tick-ku, tick-ku, tick-ku” (means “tickle”)
- - do a “raspberry”
- - blow kisses weirdly, upon command (using the back of her hand)
- - give people a wet, open-mouthed kiss on the cheek
- - dance (shake her head and/or hip side to side violently & stomp her feet; when she hears music or anything with a beat, even to the beat of trains running over a loose track in the subway station)
- - drink from a sippy cup, a straw, or just a regular cup instead of a bottle
- - play “peek-a-boo” with you
- - play “deem-chong-chong”
- - say “yai-yai” (means “naughty”)
- - say “nah-nah, nah-nah…” (which should be “no, no”; when we tell her no & she doesn’t like it)
- - pretend to give you her finger food & then take it back and then laugh at you
- - point to her nose (when you ask her where her “bei-bei”/nose is)
- - cover her ear & say “hi” (that’s her version of talking on the phone)
- - say “bees” softly with a smile (which should be “please”; when she wants something from you)
- - pat her belly (when you ask her where her “tou-dum”/belly is)
- - lie down on the changing pad when we say to her “fun-dai”/lie down (it’s still a work-in-progress; she usually ended up lying next to the pad; I have more success than Mel does at this point)
So you see, I think it’s quite a list of accomplishment for a 14-month old, and you really can’t say having a full-time mom with her has nothing to do with it!
To further prove my point, here’s a video clip taken by Melanie, with Kaitlyn showing off some of what she can do. She pretty much did whatever Mel wanted, because she just wanted to be picked up.
It has been a month since I last put anything up. I had been busy working on my senior project (equivalent to a thesis paper in other majors), a do or die assignment. Between work, classes, other homework & Kaitlyn, there wasn’t really any time left for me to focus on the project. Luckily for me, Melanie was very understanding & supportive. About a month ago, we decided that after I come home from school at 9 or 10, I should eat dinner and then go to bed right away. She would basically take care of Kaitlyn all day by herself. Then I would get up at 3 a.m. or so and start working on the project. This way, I was able to get some sleep and then get quite a few extra hours of work free from distraction & interruption.
So, Mel-Mel, thanks again! You’re also why my project got picked for the senior show!
Just like me, Kaitlyn hates it when there’s a monkey on her back, too. Here are 2 photos to prove it. Enjoy.
More dancing, clapping, and swinging her head from Kaitlyn. It isn’t the greatest copy though. I love her cute little dress, which once belonged to our dear friend Kaleigh. (THANKS!!)
I think we’ve mentioned previously that Kaitlyn loves the game shows “Family Feud” and “The Price is Right”. Well I finally got a video of her reaction to watching “Family Feud”. (*You might have to turn up the volume a little bit.) She was getting cranky sitting in her high chair, but as soon as Family Feud came on, she was excited!
Here is Kaitlyn shakin’ it a little bit to “The Way I Are” by Timbaland. (Yes, the name of the song is grammatically incorrect.)
