My Nephew

So they named him Talon Paul. (Paul, after my dad.) Never knew my sister would do that. Anyway he’s pretty cute. Looks a little more like La, for now.

Hel-lo Hunter or Talon?!?

I’m going to be an aunt in a few hours or so!! Jen just checked into the hospital. I can’t wait to see the baby. I hope Jen will be able to get her epidural. She’s been worrying that it’ll be too late and she’d have to deliver normally. Let’s just pray that mother & baby will be okay.

So we don’t know what they’re going to name the baby. Jen likes Hunter (??) and La likes Talon. Both uncommon names. I think Ether & I will have problems agreeing on names too.

On to other things, the stupid mouse that woke me up at 6 AM last week decided to make another appearance last night at 1:30 in the morning. Both times in our room, rummaging through plastic bags. I could barely sleep all night. I kept listening for sounds. Stupid thing keeps on avoiding our traps. We think it came down from the guys living upstairs cuz they kept on banging and hammering on something all day yesterday. So we decided that we’re going to do the same! We’re going to bang and hammer on the walls everyday and send the mice elsewhere! :-D

*UPDATE* I am now officially an aunt! Don’t know his name yet. He was 6+ lbs and 19 1/2 inches. He’s got lots of hair and has La’s nose. Can’t wait to see pix! Yay for Jen & La!

San Francisco: Day 1

Actually, we arrived Friday night, Aug 4.

Mel’s brother Keith picked us up at the SFO International Terminal (N.Y.C. can really be that foreign from the rest of the country, you know.) Then he took us to In-and-Out for a late-night meal.

MAN! It was so gooood! They got ghetto “uniforms” but great burgers & fries! Unfortunately, it’s the only eat-out meal that I didn’t take a picture of. Sorry people. I failed all of you.
Pix w/ Grandma('s Pix)
This is how you can take a pix w/ someone who doesn’t want to take it w/ you! Brilliant, Mel. Brilliant!
Fisherman's Wharf: Alcatraz in the background
Alcatraz is right next to Mel’s head. We’ll go there next time. ;-)

Our 2nd meal out (”Lunner”—Lunch/Dinner)

Fisherman's Wharf: Chowders 2
Mel was so excited about the food that she actually forgot to take her credit card back after paying!

Fisherman's Wharf: Chowders 3
Check out the good food we got! You can tell that Mel’s starving to dig in though.
Fisherman's Wharf:
All right. Dig in!

Bird Obesity
You know you’re in a “first world country” when the people are more concerned about the obese pigeons then the hungry ones.

And this is how we ended our first day in San Fran!

Boy or Girl?

I guess I’m just teasing with the subject, because I really don’t know the sex of the baby yet. But lots of people have given me some input on whether it’s a boy or girl. Maybe it’s all just superstition. So if you’ve had a kid before, let me know your views or experiences.

Someone told me yesterday that if I haven’t thrown up with morning sickness, then it’s a boy. Is that true for any of you? (I also suspect that the “not-throwing-up” may be coincidental with your first child as well.) My sister told me that she craved french fries during the beginning of her pregnancy (she’s having a boy) and since I have been also, she thinks it’s a boy too. Despite all these tendencies, I’ve been thinking that it’s a boy all along. I don’t know why. But I could be wrong. I guess we’ll all find out for sure next month. I would like to do a baby pool sometime. Maybe after Ether posts up pictures from our trip. :-P

And boy have people been telling me what to eat and what not to eat. I think I got bombarded at church by like 5 people yesterday. So far I’ve heard: No milk, eat yogurt, less carbs, less sugar, no cold drinks, drink more soup, and more fruit. (most have said no watermelon and one person said to eat more of it. I don’t like watermelon though.) My jeans are starting to get a little snug now. :-( I have no time to shop for new stuff. I did buy a few things in Cali though. But it’s not going to fit me just yet.

I Left My Heart in San Francisco

We just got back this morning from good ‘ol San Francisco. We had a really good time there. The weather was just beautiful. It was sunny everyday and it was like 60-70 degrees. I actually felt cold even when I wore sweaters/sweatshirts. A lot of the food is cheaper than NY. And it’s good too! You could even find gas for less than $3/gallon in some places. I wish we could have a summer home there so we don’t have to endure the hot/humid/sticky summers here. Someday. :-D I was really happy to have seen my grandmother and the other family I have in San Fran, whom I haven’t seen in about 8 years. We especially want to thank my brother, grandma, my aunt Anna, and Mary for being so hospitable to us and making our trip fun. :-) I’m really glad I got to go. It was a wonderful break from work and the other stress. The doc suggested that I drink lots of fluids and get up occasionally on the plane. Believe me, I tried. (Read the next post!)

Pictures to follow, possibly in a few days. Ether didn’t get any sleep and he has to prepare his talk for church tomorrow. You’ll definitely see something in the coming days.

Spirit Airlines?!?!

The flights to and from San Fran were pretty horrible. (Not to mention how ANNOYED I was about the whole terrorist thing – I couldn’t even bring water or lotion on the flight! And strangely no one even checked anyone’s carry-on bags at the security checkpoint, which means I could’ve snuck it in. Boo.) By the way, Spirit Airlines isn’t really a good airline to fly, but I’m sure most of you already sort of know that, since it’s not popular like American or United, but at least it’s not a target! Let’s start with the flight going to San Fran. We got to LaGuardia pretty early and it was like one of the hottest days in NY. THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING! Not even a fan. We were baking in the airport. I have never experienced such a thing. We had to stopover in Detroit first and the airport there is no good. The terminal was really small and only had like a bar/restaurant and a Chili’s/Uno’s Express. The line was LONG! The food was kinda expensive and nothing looked good to me. Then the flights to Detroit and San Fran made me deaf in my left ear from the cabin pressure during landing. Coming back from San Fran, we had a red eye flight (approx. 11 PM) and we had to stop in Detroit again. But for some reason we were stuck at the gate inside the airplane for like 45 minutes after everyone had boarded. (At that point I hadn’t had any water for 3-4 hours so I was pretty ticked.) That flight was about 4 1/2 hours and our seats couldn’t recline because we were sitting in front of the seats next to the emergency exit!! It was so hard to sleep sitting up straight. We even bought the pillows that go around your neck and that was even uncomfortable because it made your head lean forward more. So we pretty much got NO sleep at all last night. My ears were okay on the flight coming back, but not for Ether. He had the same problem I had, except in the right ear. :-PI know, I complain a lot. I’m just glad we made it alive. :-D
